Gay Marriage Quotes, Sayings about Gay Marriage
|If gay and lesbian people are given civil rights,
then everyone will want them!
Gay and lesbian people fall in love. We settle down. We commit
our lives to one another. We raise our children. We protect
them. We try to be good citizens.
The California Senator after California
Senate approved gay marriage bill AB849.
Congratulations gay people -- you are about to discover the
joys of alimony.
On California judge's ruling legalizing
President Bush said today he's troubled by all the gay marriages...
He said the only time two men should ever be in bed together
is if one is a lobbyist and one is a politician.
No government has the right to tell its citizens when or whom
to love. The only queer people are those who don't love anybody.
Rita Mae Brown
Conservative groups are demanding that President Bush support
a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. They feel that
when the founding fathers were putting the Constitution together
they made a mistake by not outlawing it. Have you ever seen
the paintings of the founding fathers? The powdered wigs, the
frilly collars, the pedal pushers I think they were for
I mean, I am surrounded by so many beautiful relationships just
in my life, I can't tell you - just so inspirational. And the
fact that what the sex is (of someone you love) is an issue
is just unbelievable to me. I mean, love is such a hard fucking
thing to find somebody who's willing to go through anything
with you and stand by you that, on its own, is so hard to find.
The fact that people want to complicate it even more just absolutely
baffles me. If it happens, cherish it! What does it matter if
you're sharing it with a man or with a woman? It's very strange
Earlier today, President Bush said gay marriage is immoral and
that heterosexual marriage must be defended, that's what he
said. ... You can tell Bush is serious because he said the new
Axis of Evil is Cher, Bette Middler and Clay Aiken.
If time and space are curved, where do all of the straight people
The Massachusetts court decision to allow gay marriages this
week may prove to be a divisive issue in the upcoming presidential
election. President Bush is likely torn because he has to protect
what he sees as a sacred institution and yet he knows gay marriage
would boost the economy because you know those gay guys would
go all out. We're talking about designer wedding cakes, $20,000
sleeveless tuxedos, giant naked man ice sculptures that pee
mojitos. They'd hire Pattie La Belle as the band, give out African
parrots as party favors. It'd be ridiculous. Remember, whatever
your political beliefs, a vote to allow gay marriage is a vote
for a fabulous economy.
In the early 1970s, I was living with my boyfriend and our out-of
wedlock arrangement was regarded as rather scandalous by both
of our families. When I went to a wedding ceremony of a lesbian
friend of mine, I was struck by the obvious irony. Here were
two women who could not be legally wed, but who were happily
celebrating their commitment to each other. They seemed to have
a better understanding of the importance of ceremony, ritual,
public declaration than people like me who tossed off the institution
of marriage as unnecessary.
Daughter of Ronald Reagan.
The process has gone extraordinarily well when you consider
that literally thousands and thousands of people are converging
on City Hall from around the world. It's remarkable to me that
a lot of hearts and minds are changing over the course of the
last few weeks since San Francisco started down this path of
Mayor of San Francisco.
I think culturally we're going through a huge change. I look
at it in a human context because I have friends in those situations,
and it's terrible. All we owe people is dignity, respect and
civil rights. I think the country will evolve.
Teresa Heinz Kerry
I believe strongly in the law that we have right now in California
which respects domestic partnership rights and I think that
that's a very good law. I believe in equal rights absolutely
and in protecting that.
Governor of California.
That's like asking: Do I support black or white marriage? We
must stop the separation of gays and lesbians from other Americans.
Rev. Al Sharpton
When asked if he supported marriages between
If your neighbor has a completely different view on abortion,
gay marriage, stem cell research, all of those things, you still
are both Americans. Neither one of you is necessarily more patriotic
than the other. Neither loves their country any more than the
other one does.
Marriage hasn't been my thing. But gay people, knock yourselves
